Parent and Carer Support

An essential part of working with children is also working with parents and carers. Parents are included in the therapy process at Blossoming Kids, with regular parent meetings to discuss progress, strategies, feedback and new ideas. Parents have flexibility around how often these sessions are held and what the focus is. In some instances, there may be more parent work than direct work with the child, or joint work with parent and child, or it may be solely parent work.

The structure of the intervention is assessed on a case-by-case basis depending on presenting worries. An example of parent support might involve feedback around a child's presentation and observations, psycho-education around a child's emotional state and strategies to manage this (e.g if having big emotional escalations, difficulty regulating, or experiencing anxiety), and continually reviewing strategies provided to discuss progress.

This approach allows collaboration between all parties and creates consistency for the child.
